CFM56 Nears 15-million Flight Hours

With more than 9,000 engines delivered, CFM International's CFM56 turbofans will hit the mark of 115 million in-flight hours by the end of 1998 as they rack up experience at the rate of 15 million hours per annum. The lead engine-a CFM56-3-set an on-wing record of 30,300 hours, all the more remarkable because of the short flights involved. The powerplant achieved a stunning 19,988 cycles.
