Moya Lear Forwards Award To Embry-Riddle University
Moya Lear, who this past July received the $10,000 monetary
portion of the 1999 Amelia Earhart Pioneering Achievement Award
at the Amelia Earhart Festival in Atchison, KS, donated the money
to Embry Riddle University on Wednesday.
Mrs. Lear told a small group attending the ceremony at NBAA that
the monetary reward was given with the understanding that it would,
in turn, be given to the university of the awardee's choice and
"that was easy. I didn't have a problem with it. It would
be Embry Riddle."
The money will fund one $5,000 scholarship for a young
lady pursuing a career in aeronautical sciences at each of the
school's two campuses at Daytona Beach, FL, and Prescott, AZ.
Mrs. Lear is a former trustee of Embry Riddle and received an
honorary doctorate there in 1981. In 1992, she also established
the Bill and Moya Lear Endowed Scholarship at the university.
"One of the university's most important needs is scholarship
assistance for students," said Embry Riddle President Dr.
George H. Ebbs. "What an honor it is to receive continuing
support from Moya Lear!"
