Finncomm Orders Eight ATRs at Paris

ATR CEO Filippo Bagnato and Juhani Pakari, managing director of Finncomm Airlines, signed for eight ATR 42-500s. The new aircraft will replace the current fleet of Saab-340s when delivery begins later this year; deliveries will then continue through 2007.

Eight more ATR 42-500s have been signed for as options in consideration of expected traffic growth. Deliveries for options would take place until 2009.

The firm-ordered aircraft will be fed into the Finnair Helsinki hub and operated on the Finncomm Airlines regional network. Finncomm’s ATR 42s will be equipped with several of the latest tools in communications and navigation, including Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System and Precision Area Navigation with a possible upgrade to the Required Navigation Performance that is foreseen to be mandated in 2010.

The 48-seat aircraft will also be fitted with the new “Elegance” cabin, to provide further comfort for passengers.

Bagnato announced his expectations of over 50 more orders by the year-end.

Pakari said his airline selected the ATR for the fuel-efficiency and cabin comfort. “In order to manage for the future, we see ourselves heading for turboprops,” Pakari said at the signing. — Evan Sweetman
