Embraer Shows the Very New and the Very Old

Embraer are debuting two new airliners here, plus a Legacy corporate jet, and a very old airplane in tribute to pioneer Brazilian pilot Alberto Santos Dumont.

This is the first time that the Embraer 195 — largest aircraft in the Brazilian manufacturer’s four-ship E-Jet airliner family — has appeared outside Latin America. The aircraft on show here at Le Bourget is the only example built to date and has been pulled out of Embraer’s more urgent 190 certification test flying schedule to be here. It will fly each day.

The 195 is joined by the shorter-bodied Embraer 175 which is due to go into service with launch customer Air Canada this summer. And completing the Brazilian line-up is a full-scale replica of Alberto Santos Dumont’s famous 14bis, here to mark the forthcoming centenary of the celebrated Brazilian aviation pioneer’s 1906 Paris flights. —Mike Vines
