France has become the latest of several European nations to employ Galileo Avionica’s Mirach family of unmanned targets. Following completion of qualification testing, the Centre d’Essais de Lancement de Missiles (CELM) has placed the Mirach 100/5 in service with its facilities at Biscarrosse (Landes) and Isle du Levant to provide its customers with targets for weapon system proving and armed forces training. Under MBDA leadership, Galileo Avionica, a Finmeccanica company, has adapted its target UAV to meet France’s custom requirements, including a specific data loop or interface between the system and the range computer center and internal modifications for high load factors in low altitude operations. The Mirach 100/5 system is able to manage up to eight targets simultaneously. It can fly solo or in formation at high subsonic speeds and at low or high altitudes carrying specific equipment or towing a secondary target.
