On the Record With

BRYAN MOSS, PRESIDENT, GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE

It's been a spectacular year for Gulfstream in its drive to provide leading-edge aircraft at price points all the way between the G100 and the top-of-the-range G550.

"Candidly it's the result of some well-thought-out planning and execution, in parallel with keeping the pulse of the marketplace to determine the products of the future." So says Gulfstream Aerospace president Bryan Moss, who yesterday unveiled the mockup of Gulfstream's latest entry, the six-passenger, large cabin G100.

In just one year Gulfstream has received FAA or European certification for three new models—the G550, G500 and G350—and introduced the G450. In May it received a common pilot rating for all four of those models, which share the same PlaneView flight deck.

The G550 last month celebrated its first year in service. The 25-aircraft fleet accumulated more than 7,600 flight hours, and recorded a dispatch reliability rate of 99.73 percent. The fleet leader has already reached over 900 hours. In that year the G550 established more than 10 city-pair speed and distance records, as well as a long-distance, nonstop, 7,301-nmi flight between Seoul, South Korea, and Orlando, Fla.

In January the FAA formally recognized the safety benefits of Gulfstream's enhanced vision system, which is now flying on more than 100 aircraft. More recently, Gulfstream began flying a GV with NASA's synthetic vision system.

"You can't stand still," says Moss. "With PlaneView and EVS we enjoy a very strong lead in technology, and we are committed to maintaining and hopefully increasing it."
