Claverham Takes Off Rapidly, Meets JSF Challenge

Claverham Group Ltd, riding high on record financial results and exhibiting at Farnborough for the first time under its own banner, is showcasing its range of aerospace and defense equipment in Hall 3, Stand A14.

Claverham was formed in 1998 following acquisition of Fairey Hydraulics Limited (FHL), and employs 400 staff at its North Somerset factory. Earlier this month the company disclosed record full-year financial results, with turnover and before tax profits up, and order backlog standing at $185 million.

"In the two years since the last show we have enjoyed strong growth in all areas. We have been able to build a sustainable position within the consolidating aerospace and defense industry thanks to our quest for continuous improvements in business innovation, operational processes and product competitiveness," said CEO Simon Frost.

Over the past year Claverham's FHL Division has won contracts to supply actuation systems for the Agusta-Bell AB 139 helicopter and Meteor missile, and has become a member of the Boeing One Team developing the Joint Strike Fighter. For JSF, FHL is supplying a suit of actuators incorporating its direct drive valve (DDV) system to fellow team member Rolls-Royce for incorporation in the attitude and lift control systems of Boeing's X-32B STOVL variant.

"We've had to overcome difficulties presented by an operating environment that far exceeds that of conventional aircraft," said FHL managing director Alan Bean. "It's been an exciting challenge and there are still a few hurdles to clear, but we have been able to supply a standardized DDV system, which provides state-of-the-art performance over its working range."
