Mock HAVE LITE Air-to-Ground Missile Completes First Safe Separation

The HAVE LITE missile co-marketed by Lockheed Martin and Rafael Industries has achieved the first successful safe separation during a test at the U.S. Air Force's Eglin AFB in Florida. The mass model was dispensed from an F-16 to determine if it would cleanly leave an aircraft configured in a typical tactical set-up, developers said. The mock missile separated cleanly from the aircraft and its release was found to impart no undo strains to the launch platform. The missile is a lighter version of the AGM-142 HAVE NAP, and is intended to expand the missile to the F-16 market and other smaller tactical fighters. The next flight will be a live launch of a prototype in late 2001 from a single-seat F-16. The goal is to see whether a single pilot can guide the missile to target while flying his aircraft. HAVE LITE production is to begin in 2003.
